You can help them get to Okinawa!

I mentioned in another post about the martial arts pilgrimage that Braun Karate and Martial Arts in Kenosha, Wisconsin wants to take in 2013...Well, 2014.

A trip across the world to the home of karate for those students who practice and sweat and learn not only the defensive arts, but the philosophy that shores them up.  A trip to expand horizons, exchange cultures and change the lives of those who take on this adventure.

Braun Karate and Martial Arts (BKMA) is a small dojo but, speaking as a parent of a BKMA student, it passes on a big message; responsibility to yourself and your community, hard work, reaching up and down to others, discipline, respect and self control.  I know that Max has absorbed these ideas and, even at a mere 7 years old, has been able to apply them in some way to the life he lives every day.

Braun Karate and Martial Arts is a dojo that, until a few years ago, did not charge their students anything to take classes.  Even now, their charge for a year is what most karate schools charge for a month and this means that kids and adults who would not otherwise have the means to take karate can.  Sensei Braun is a rare breed, who passes on his knowledge of martial arts because he understands the impact it can have and the way that it can change a persons view of the world and themselves.  This is a club of martial artists and not a for profit company.  The dojo is maintained by the students and everyones time is donated.  This is what a dojo can be.

You know what they say about the best laid plans...The trip to Okinawa had to be postponed till 2014 because the Okinawa masters have gone on the road and it would be a shame to be there when they are not. That means that we have an extra year to raise the money to get these kids to Okinawa. We need your help!

There are about 18 months before the trip happens in 2014 and I would love to be able to help BKMA students and parents who want to go, lower the cost.  The trip is 2 weeks and the approximate cost per person is $3000 - $4000.  I have installed a “donate” button on the right side for anyone who is moved to help us raise money for this grand karate adventure.

I will leave the button up for the next year and we will see what happens.  All the money that is collected will go to help pay for Okinawa expenses.
To those who have donated, thank you on behalf of all the BKMA students and instructors  and to those who will donate, thank you for helping to make this trip more possible.
