Facile Friday - On this Day

May 11.  What is so special about May 11?

In 1812, English ballrooms were disgusted by the immoral new dance that had been introduced, they called it the waltz.

No, that is not really what I am thinking of.

What about the launch of the HMS Beagle?  That was the ship that Charles Darwin sailed on during his great scientific voyage in 1820.

Very cool but no, that's not it either.

Maybe it's that on May 11, 1916, a man named Albert Einstein presented a fascinating theory of general relativity.

Or that in 1929, on this day, the first regularly scheduled TV programs started to run 3 days a week.

Nope

Well, in 1934 a huge storm whipped across the Great Plains region of the U.S. and picked up millions of tons of topsoil and dropped it as far away as Boston and Atlanta.  Welcome the Dust Bowl.

A huge event but that's not it.

Oh!  In 1949 the first Polaroid camera was sold in New York City?

May 11, 1958 saw the first nuclear tests on Bikini Island?

Actually, I think what I am looking for happened in 1965.  Let's see....

Ellis Island was added to the Statue of Liberty National Monument?

Wait!
I remember!

It's MY birthday!  To all of you out there who celebrate your birthday on May 11th......

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!
