Random Stuff

Sometimes you just have to post random stuff, so here ya go.
List of random stuff in no particular order.

1. We have an anciently old apple tree in our backyard and it is in bloom right now.  I love the blossoms and how they drop their pinkish white petals like snow.  I took some photos and played with some of the cool extras that my camera has.  The photo for this post used a retro filter along with a filter that makes the picture look very high definition but my favorite filter is the pastel.  Here is the photo using that filter.
I love this!
2. I got some won tons at the market to make crab Rangoon and had a ton left over.  I ended up making won ton raviolis.  For the adults I made crab and portabello ravioli and for the kid it was all about the cheese!  The consistency is very different from regular pasta but I really liked how the whole dish came together.  You know that I have more photos!

3. We were lamenting that the cold weather here in Wisconsin has made it hard to get our garden going so on Saturday Max and I enjoyed the sun, while it was out, and picked up some more veggies for our garden.  Corn, broccoli, small watermelon and flying saucer squash (patti pan) were all planted in our compost garden.  I must say that the lasagna garden has worked out really well for everyone, our plants are happy in their bed with nice warm feet and lots of decaying crud to eat and we only have to pull an occasional weed that has been left by a passing bird or squirrel.

While Max and I were wandering through all of the greenhouses at the farm center, he found a huge colander that had been planted with various lettuce.  "Mom!  can you eat all of these?"  "Yea, you certainly can."  Then my lovely son grabbed the colander and shoved his face deep into the center where he proceeded to munch on the leaves and declare "this stuff is awesome!"
Can't you just picture Max's little head buried in this big puff?
So we picked up what has been commercially called a "Snip N Gro" and took it home.  Max was so in love with this that he wanted to get one for his Oompy (grandma) for her birthday on the 31st of May.  We delivered the Snip N Gro to Oompy and Max did a fabulous job of having the giant puffball make its entrance.  Can I say that this really is a GIANT puffball.  It is easily 2+ feet in diameter and that is a heck of a lot of lettuce.

Sunday has been pretty much a wash, as it rained and was cold all day.  We started the day with blueberry pancakes and did watch a movie and eat popcorn but the rest of the day was filled with random projects here and silliness there.  Of course we had a salad for dinner that was made from our puffball which is now balding on one side.  I am happy to say that tomorrow is suppose to be really sunny and warm here in Wisconsin, I hope that wherever you are in the world, the weather is just right for doing what you enjoy.

For Memorial Day, I want to say thank you to the families of the men and women who have given their lives while serving our country.  We remember always.
