Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh-ree-Ohhhhhhhhhhhh

There is a controversy of late and it involves Oreo.  Is it wrong to introduce a cookie this good to someone?  If they take it and consume it and become a slave to it's goodness, who is to blame?  You make the call!

When I was growing up the best cookie in the world was the Oreo and dipped in cold milk it was heaven on earth. Hydrox sandwich cookies were the original, coming out in 1908, but they had no chance against the perfection that would become Oreo.

Over the years the Oreo cookie has stayed exactly the same. They did come out with a few variations:
Double Stuf Oreos                                                         Peanut Butter Oreos
Chocolate Oreos                                                            Fudge Sundae Oreos
Halloween Oreos                                                           Reduced Fat Oreos
Golden Oreos                                                                Golden Chocolate Oreos
Golden Double Stuf Oreos                                             Oreo Fudgees
Oreo Fudge Rings                                                          Oreo Cakesters
Oreo Chocolate Cakesters                                             Oreo Peanut Butter Cakesters
Golden Oreo Cakesters                                                 Oreo Fun Stix
Golden Oreo Fun Stix                                                    Sugar Free Oreos
Mini Oreos                                                                    Oreo Mini Cakesters
Oreo Thin Crisps                                                           Oreo Snack Cakes
Oreo No-Bake Jello Dessert                                         Oreo Pie Crust
Oreo Cookies and Cream Ice Cream                            Oreo Marble Mix’ins
Oreo Cones                                                                  Oreo Ice Cream Sandwiches

I think that is pretty much it.  Not too much.

The packaging went through some changes, adopting a resealable doomawhicky that helped to keep the cookie fresh for a much longer time.  I remember struggling to eat the cookies before they went soft and tasted stale.  Even ziploc bags couldn't keep them safe from moisture and smushyness.  A soft Oreo cookie, a sadder thing has never been seen.

On a recent visit to my parents home, I was introduced to a New Oreo.  Like many, I scoffed at the potential of yet another incarnation to be as good or better than the original.  When it came out, Double stuff was only for the unsophisticated Oreo eater.  Too much middle threw off the ratio of cookie to cream and you lost the taste of the chocolatey cookie.  My mother handed me the new Oreo and I took a bite.  "Wow, those are really good."  They were cool mint Oreos, an Oreo that had the found the taste that, for decades, belonged only to the Girl Scout Thin Mints.

My advice to anyone who has not tried the mint Oreo, don't do it!  The reason Thin Mint Girl Scout cookies were so coveted when we had them was because you could only buy them once a year and you had to have access to a girl scout.  Oreo has upped the ante by making this cookie readily available.  That's right, you can get these little babies any time you want to by heading to your local grocery store.

The controversy arises in the introduction of this illicit dessert to the unsuspecting friend or family member.  I think that a statement of potential impact should be read, signed, and noterized before said friend or family enters into the covenent with the cookie.  Don't take the addictive quality of these simple cookies for granted.  They have their own facebook page for goodness sake!!  If you don't want to HAVE to eat them, just say no from the beginning.  I have lost too many friends and loved ones to the cool mint Oreo and believe that if I can speak out and save just one person from this minty fate I have done as much as I can to spare others from grief.

If you see these cookies please pass on the warning.

Be careful out there!

Congress, upheld by the Supreme Court, will find the person who introduced the cookie to you guilty. I really enjoyed this post and will be back often to stay more current. Have a great day. Blessings...Mary
