Do you see it? The deer just kind of stood there till I got close enough to make it nervous and then it leaped in to the trees and watched me walk by while it flicked it's white tail at me.
Well, after 2 days of fun, music, food, and that overall vacationy feeling we had to pack the car and go. We did, however, eat one last time at a place in Memphis called Brother Junipers. I heard that they baked their own bread so I had the french toast and it was REALLY good! I also had a fresh made juice with carrots, apples, ginger, pears and I think there were a few others n there too. Another great place to eat.
We said our goodbyes and we were off again only this time we were heading North.
If you don't have a GPS let me tell you why you should get one. We were all getting hungry again (see the theme?) and wanted to find a little park to have our picnic lunch. How do you do that when you don't know anything about where you are? GPS! After hitting a few buttons it found us the closest park, which turned out to be a cute little place with a wrought iron fence, a gazebo and nice picnic tables. It really was perfect. Now, if we didn't have that GPS we never would have found that park and probably would have eaten in a truck stop parking lot. Last year we used the GPS to take all kinds of back road detours and we found some really great little towns that we never would have seen. THAT is why a GPS makes life on the road better. Thank you.
Flash forward about 4 hours and Max is getting tired of being in the car. "I can only stand to be in here one more hour mom!" "OK, wherever we are in one hour is where we will stop for the night." That ended up being Litchfield, IL. Can you guess what we wanted to do? EAT! Good guess. We went looking for one place and ended up at the Ariston Cafe on historic route 66. The history of this place is very cool and so we decided to give it a try. Another keeper! The food was fantastic and they have unbelievable desserts.
Litchfield, Illinois. Now what? Swimming is always a good way to poop everyone out before you fall asleep. Max and I spend over an hour splashing and swimming. I had tons of fun tossing him around and doing with him all of the things my dad use to do with me in a pool. Finally, Max started to get noticeably tired, so before he sunk to the bottom we got out and got cozy in the big hotel bed.
Morning! Time to swim!
This was a great vacation and was a real adventure for Max. He got lost, kayaked, swam in a stinky pond, played with fireworks (kind of) got to know his cousins, had almost total freedom for 2 days, and only threw once from motion sickness. That is a good trip!!
Don't we look well traveled? Wake up Paul! |
