I need to clear up a few things before I begin this post in earnest.
1. Boompy needs to be recognized for snapping the photo of me laying on the ground and taking the picture of Max and the arch. Great photo pops!
2. I am enjoying giving Boompy a hard time with the napping photos, but I have been informed that I am making him look like he naps all the time and he doesn't. I just want to add that although he may not nap "all the time", when he does nap he does it with a very high level of competency and I admire that.
On to Memphis!
As with any good vacation, you must always make time to eat. We stopped at Boompy's favorite little spot....Cracker Barrel. We wandered and were amazed by all of the "old time" items in the general store, things like battery operated lazer guns that made 50 sounds and "My daddy's Harley is bigger than yours" t-shirts. I remember my grandfather telling stories about walking 10 miles to his one room school house with nothing but his battery operated lazer gun and a mule. Ahhhh, memories. After enough fat and carbs to kill that mule, we were ready to get back on the road. But first, we had to watch the guys who sit out in front of the Cracker Barrel and play checkers. I don't know why I am always drawn to these checker players.
We took off but..........distraction! Old car alert! MUST TAKE PHOTOS!
OK, Now we can go.
Did I tell you that it was hot? Well, it was REALLY hot and HUMID! My face became my very own portable salt lick. How pleasant is that? We made it to Memphis and pulled into my cousin's driveway. What a welcome sight that was, though the drive actually went pretty well (if you exclude the yucky parts).
There is nothing like being greeted by happy dogs and then jumping in a kayak, fishing or just relaxing.
My family is filled with amazingly talented people and some of the musical kind gathered on the front porch to share a little of what they do well. Thanks to Rachel, Sally, Larry and Paul for this little tidbit.
After some music and laughter on the porch, there has to be some fishin'.
As the sun set, we all gathered in the kitchen and talked about everything and anything. Oh yea, and we ate! We did that a lot actually. We had such a fantastic time in Memphis. It is so fun to hook up with family you haven't seen in a long time and meet new family. I just love all of the personalities, talent and wit that exists in one extended family. Thanks Anne and John for letting us stay at your home, we loved every minute of it.
That is it for now. My fingers are getting tired. I will work on the last installment and post it soon. I think it is time for me to get a little sleep.
Love ya Boompy! Couldn't resist |
