There he is, my little ninja warrior.
Kids gravitate to different things and Max has found his current calling in karate. It is amazing to watch him being a 6 year old and then see him turn into this freakishly focused martial artist. I love watching him do karate though in the past there have been some minor concerns.
He has competed in two tournaments since he started taking karate, a little more than a year and a half ago. The first one was really a way to get him to step outside of his regular comfort zone and dive into the unknown. He did amazingly well and has carried the confidence with him. He participated in another tournament on Saturday and this time added another division to his dance card. He was not nervous. I know this because everyone who met him asked the same question, "Are you nervous?" and his reply was always the same, "No, I really know this stuff." Nuff said!
Here is Max in my artistically hacked together video of part of the tournament. One thing that I will point out, when he is doing his kata and approaches the judges, we advised him to pick one to look at, right in the eyes when he did his big yell. I just love that part!
