I love it because it is a never ending deluge of food. Did I mention that I love food? I do. I am going to make the turkeys for this Thanksgiving and, as always, I need to break the mold of comfort, jump recklessly into the abyss or run off the cliff like Wyle E. Coyote, not even knowing that I am hanging in midair. I revel in the opportunity to be a participant in an escapade, an exploit, an experience or an adventure of even minor proportions. I am not so sure that some members of my family would agree but I always have a backup in case my little jaunt of frivolity goes haywire.
One year I was in charge of the veggies. I love veggies but talk about BORING! So I made the standard green beans and then I bust out of the box and not just a little bit. The box disintegrated as I passed through it with laser like power and on the other side of this was something that may have been a bit wacky, asparagus flan. Seriously! My youngest brother thought it was disgusting and blamed his hatred for it on a textural issue he is currently working through. The rest of the family was either too polite to say anything or they actually liked it. I will admit that the flan texture and the asparagus flavor might have been a bit of a food oxymoron but I loved it! It was fantabulous the next day from the fridge on a nice crusty bread. Yum. As you may have noticed, I have added a link to the infamous flan recipe so that you can create your own reputation at home.
This year I am messing with the turkey and that could be slightly more dangerous but I am a rebel and as I have said, I always have a back up that will make everyone happy. I will not divulge what I made until the 14th of December but I am sure it will be very exciting. For any family members that might be reading this and quaking a bit, rest assured that it will all be just fine. It will be new and different for sure but maybe not as far out of the box as the asparagus flan.
Wishing everyone a wonderful adventure filled Thanksgiving.
