Me in about 1968 |
If I am truely honest with myself I really had a crush on the entire band. If you could mash them all together, they would have made the perfect guy.
Mickey Dolenz was the weird, funny one.
Peter Tork was the quirky and cute simpleton.
Mike Nesmith was the quiet, talented musician.
Davy Jones was the, well, he was the heart throb. The cute, funny, british accented sweetheart that everyone, including Marsha Brady, drooled over. I never liked Marsh Brady, I thought she was annoying but I did envy her being able to give Davy not one kiss, but two! I had a Monkees album and a t-shirt with them hanging out of their Monkees car with the guns that shoot the flags out that say Bang! What a life I had. I even remember trying to do that dance that Davy Jones did all the time, it was just so 1960's!
As is inevitable, we all got older and moved on...or did we? There is nothing so pleasant as a good round of reminiscing about things that are now tempered with age and humor.
They all look older but it is nice to see that they could still have fun with these songs that, for good or bad, have followed them around for decades. Thanks for the memories, Rest in Peace Davy!
