Facile Friday - Pulling the trigger

I finally pulled the trigger.

Yes, I finally did it, I joined a gym.
I had been looking around for a gym that had all of the right amenities for me; a variety of equipment, a place for Max to go if I had to take him with me, multiple locations and locations that were convenient.  I finally found what looks like the right place for me and I went and worked out for the first time in about 4 years.

Perfect
Gyms are funny places and I noticed that as I have gotten older, my perception of them has changed.  When I was younger they were the place where I felt insecure because in the 1980's and 90's there was a lot of spandex, headbands, leg warmers and butt floss walking around in neon colors.  I actually had a membership to a gym that had a dress code that included the spandex tights and unitards!  Yuck.  Do you remember that movie with Jamie Lee Curtis and John Travolta called Perfect?

My first trip to the new gym was very different.  This one is not the "meat market" of old but appears to be a place where people go to actually workout.  How refreshing.  There are still those uber fit people who wander, paying attention to who is watching them but they seem to be far less prevalent then in the past.  I have also gotten much older and far less insecure so I was much more comfortable in the space than  when I was young.

So here I go, back into the realm of the fit.  This was a place that I spent a lot of time in the past and then came marriage, childbirth and the inevitable aging process that left me with more weight than I want and a body that has to relearn what it feels like to work hard because I am asking it to.  Sounds like fun huh?

This is the next great adventure in my life and although it sounds a bit mundane, I am pretty excited about the whole thing.  I am coming to grips with the fact that I am not 25 years old any more but I am OK with it and my body and I will get a chance to get to know each other again.
