What do you call it when you say to your children, "Clean your room. Clean your room. Clean your room."
In some more clinical realms they might refer to it as todays Facile Friday word.....
PERSEVERATION
Perseverating is what I do with my son, my husband and the dog. "Moo, come! Come! Come!" I am forced to persistently and almost uncontrollably repeat myself. This would be called verbal perseveration. You can also perseverate behavior, thought, activity, emotion or strategy. While examining this word I noticed that this is an idea that is quite prevalent in my daily existence. I perseverate things like, picking up socks in the living room, thinking that I really should be going to bed early, frustration with the laundry that I haven't put away yet and now needs to be washed again and, I think that I need to include the activity of going to work every day because it feels like perseveration. Here is what I was thinking...
Since I am perseverating anyway, I will try and see if I can perseverate on the positive.....isn't that a song?
"You've go to per-sev-erate the positive, e-lim-in-ate the negative and don't mess with Mr. in between"
I am making an announcement......
I, Monkey Queen, will perseverate only positive from this day forward. You are all witnesses!
To you all who have chosen to come and visit with me today, I wish for you a wonderful weekend overflowing with love, kindness and positive perseverations!
