We love our Moo! He is the best dog but he has some issues. He is a bit action oriented, some have called it hyperactive but I disagree. Moo is perfectly able to lie down and chill out, he just chooses not to.
Moo is epileptic and takes medication that apparently makes him want to consume mass quantities of........anything. As is in keeping with the universal idea of homeostasis, we left to go on a vacation that was within our financial means and the universe decided that we needed to spend, spend, spend! Our homeostasis is obviously achieved by not having money in savings.
This time the dog was our vehicle to financial overload. We got a call on the first day of our driving vacation that Moo needed to go to the vet because they thought that he had bloat. For those of you who don't know, bloat is a very bad thing that can lead to a good dogs demise. It is when the intestines get knotted up and everything backs up in their system. "Oh my god! Definitely get him to the vet!" A quiet fell over the car as we sped along through southern Illinois. "I hope that he is alright." The next call, and there were many, was that it was not bloat but there was something in his belly and his small intestines that was causing him a big problem. Then the word surgery came out. When money is tight there is always that moment when you think about the problem with only the cost in mind and that is an uncomfortable place to be. So we thought about the money for the millisecond that it took to know that we would never let Moo go when he could be back to normal with a little procedure to remove the object that he had consumed. "Yea, just do what you have to do!" When we hung up the phone the panic hit. We were about to spend a lot of money that we did not have.

Did I mention what it was that our dog ate? Well, he apparently ate one of those "dogs can't break them" kind of balls. I am struggling with being proud that my dog did what everyone said couldn't be done and being upset that my dog did it at all! The unfortunate thing is that cause and effect are not within a dogs ability to learn, so this painful lesson could be wasted on my lovable pooch.
The surgery went well and when Moo could leave the vet, we had our good friend Katie, a great dog person with lots of knowledge and know-how, care for him while we were away. Thanks to Katie and everyone at Katie's Canine Klubhouse in Racine for taking such great care of the fourth member of our family.
We are all home now and though he is moving slowly, Moo is doing well.
We want to thank everyone for their warm wishes and emotional support during our time away from our furry child.
