What a week it was

Most weeks go by without anything new and exciting but this week was a little bit different.
First, Paul's parents came to visit from Massachusetts and everyone had a great time visiting, swimming and eating together.  They got to see where Max will be going to school in just a couple of weeks and it appears they approved of it.  Grampa turns 80 this year, so we all had a little celebration for him and I do believe that he had a good time!  It is always nice to have visitors for a little while.

One night I cooked for them and made a super yummy meal of Orange brandy pan roasted chicken, minted grape couscous, steamed carrots and the best coffee cake ever!  The chicken was a recipe I had never tried before but with a few adjustments it was really fantastic.  It will go into the keeper files for sure.  I think that they enjoyed it, I caught Gramma taking pictures of the food.

Monday came and I had to go back to work, yuck, but I have a job so I guess I won't complain.

I got to hook up with some of my family on Sunday and it was fun to reminisce and catch up with what everyone is up to nowadays.  It was great to see Maryann and Don after so long.

I had to go to the dentist because I had a filling fall out during our trip to Memphis.  I really do like my dentist though.  He has a pretty good sense of humor and can dispense Novocaine with the best of them.  Thanks doc, it all went swimmingly!

It has been pretty hot and humid here in the state of Wisconsin and I was watering our gardens in the evening to make sure everything got a good drink.  We have a tiny little pond that I put in a couple of years ago and it is so beautiful now with all of the flowers and plant life that surrounds it.  I watered the pond area and as I walked closer I heard a small and purposeful splash.  Hmmmmm, is what I thought to myself.  We live in a fairly urbanish environment, where there is a lot more black top than wooded grasslands.  Somehow, we have perfected the mini pond community because we have a matched pair of frogs who are now living in our pond and I think that they have chosen it to raise their offspring!  Yipee!!  Tadpoles!!  We haven't named them yet but I would like to introduce you to our two newest neighbors.....

THE FROGS!

Isn't that just the coolest!?   They must be a new couple, just starting out.  Our pond is definitely a starter.  It is about 30 inches in diameter and 22 inches deep, but I suppose when you are young and in love, it is just the right amount of room to start your family.

I got my hair cut.  I know that a haircut is just not that exciting for most people but you need to understand how it works for me.  I am the impromptu hair cutter.  I think, "I need to get my hair cut."  and then I have to do it that day or I won't think about it again for a while.  My hair was pretty long and spent the majority of it's time in a ponytail, so I went with a layered look and I like it.  Please forgive the "no smile" picture I am showing you.  I had to take it with the timer and obviously couldn't focus on myself while I was behind the camera.  I actually held up a broom in the spot where I would stand and focused the camera on that instead.  I may not be smiling but, miraculously, it is in focus!

Now that I have seen this photo I think I need to do it again with a smile this time.  Hold on one second while I make this happen.  Here is a little "holding music".

Wait Wait (mp3)

Thanks for waiting.  This one is a little better, at least I'm smiling.  So that is my cut hair

Oh yea!  I also made pesto.  I got home from work the other day and the basil reached out and grabbed me.  Really!  It pleaded with me to help it slim down.  The basil was crazy huge and I had to do something to help it out, pesto it is!

It turned out really well.  Garlicy, pine nutty and cheesy.  Just the way I like it.  I got a thank you card from Basil and I appreciate the thought, but it was my pleasure.

Max adored the bow ties with pesto and I was happy that he liked it.  Yet another notch that his food horizon has been expanded in a healthy direction.  Again I want to thank the basil and remind it that I will be back in a couple of weeks to do this again.

Tomorrow starts a new week and I am a little sad to see this one go.  I hope that your week is filled with little adventures.
