Facile Friday - An Accounting

Wow!  Life is so weird sometimes.  Have you ever felt like the universe is telling you it is time to readjust your existence?
The summer has come to a close, school started and then there were the losses.

This summer was excellent.  We had a fabulous family vacation in Memphis.  Max had way too much fun and met new friends at YMCA camp, we got accepted to the Prairie School (well, Max did), and we have harvested pattipan, cucumbers, tomato, broccoli, basil, mint, oregano and garlic chives from our garden.

Max made the brave leap to a new school with a completely different philosophy and attitude about education.  He has been in school four days and he is a little live wire.  Before this new school he would come home and not be able to tell you what he did all day at school.  Now he says that he had a "great day" and that "it was excellent".  What a difference!  On Thursday his teacher stopped Paul to tell him that Max is doing really well and is so well behaved and respectful of her and other students in class.  What a great thing to hear after 3 days!  I am so happy that he is engaged in school and is having a good time while he is learning new things.  This is what education should be!

We also experienced loss and sadness.  As many of you may have read, we lost our best canine friend Moo far to early, but we have found the place where we can remember him as the awesome dog that he was and enjoy all of the pictures and memories that we have.

We also lost David "Honeyboy" Edwards and although he was 96 and lived a long and eventful life, it is still sad that he had to go.  Paul has spent lots of time reflecting on his moments with Honeyboy and all of the lessons he learned from him.  Paul had a special relationship with Honeyboy, he was privledged to play music and absorb some of what Honeyboy's life had taught him.  We were all blessed to have had contact with a man who was kind, talented and holds a special place in blues history.  He will be missed.

September appears to be a new time for our family, I am not sure where we will go from here, but wherever it is I can't help but think that it will be a kind of reset of the life that we had to a new adventure. Hoping that your existence continues to be a great adventure.

Oh yea, Happy Labor Day!
