Introducing.........

I want to keep this informal, so here he is......ROGER ROSCOE KOLODNY!
He is a rescue that we found at Green Pups Shelter in Lake Zurich, Illinois.  This is a small, all volunteer rescue that does this because they believe in it.  I am very happy that this worked out with Green Pups Shelter because I am very fond of supporting people who do something because they truly care and not just because they can make a buck.  Thanks Misty for a great match!  If you are looking for a dog to love or just feel the need to donate to a wonderful cause, visit Green Pups and tell them that Roscoe sent you.

But more about Roger, his mother was a black and tan coon hound and his father was a ramblin' man or maybe it was his mother, we just don't know.  Now, we were going to wait till the holidays to get a puppy but then I got a really great piece of advice.....get a puppy when you can potty train them easily and winter is not that time at all.  Even I don't like to go outside when it is 10 degrees when I don't have to but pee and poo are not good housemates!  Soooooo, we gave a cursory look at the Petfinder.com site and the bolt of lightening struck.  This was the cutest litter of puppies I had ever seen and they were hounds with maybe a bit of lab in there for good measure.  We sent in the application and got a really quick reply and an invitation to come and visit some of the puppies we were looking at.

The day before we went to see the puppy, we got the news that 2 of them were a bit sick and though we could see them we couldn't adopt till they were well.  The conversation led to "What kind of dog are you looking for?" and I went on my long shpeel about Moo's energy level and wanting to take it down a notch but loving his cuddly (OK, slut for love) demeanor and ultimate family loyalty.  "I have the perfect puppy for you and I am not just saying that!" She told me about Roscoe and how he was a bit more mild mannered.  She continued, "he is really smart and cuddly.  He just wants to be where you are and will follow you anywhere."  I just kept thinking, could this really be true?  Could there be a hound/lab puppy that is fairly calm and still has all of these other traits that we loved about Moo?

Well, Max and I and a friend of mine, Ann, all met in Lake Villa, IL to meet said puppy.  Good gosh almighty!  He was so cute and playful but very happy to roll in the bushes and play with rabbit droppings.  This was OUR dog!  Really!  He was perfect.  Did I mention that he was cute?

If anyone ever says to you "we are going to LOOK at puppies", don't hold back, just let out the belly laugh that wants to rise from your insides.  No one ever just looks at puppies.  If you have decided to take the action of looking, you WILL end up owning, it is a well researched fact.  Come on!  Puppies?!  Photographs tug at your heart strings but face to face reaches into your chest and rips your heart right out.

In keeping with "just looking" we are now the proud parents (and kid) of a bouncing baby coon hound.  Wish us luck!  Every new puppy parent needs that you know.

R-R-ROGER R-R-ROCKS!!
